New Services Offered by Sustainable Stables

Updated: Jan 25, 2020

We've been busy updating our website to reflect several exciting changes that have been happening around here. Have a look at www.SustainableStables.com. Most notably, we have expanded our services beyond equestrian planning and design to include:

  • Soil, forage, hay and compost testing

  • Sales of a select eco-friendly stable supplies, including mud control grids, paddock slabs, and footing containment edging timbers all made from 100% recycled plastic

Soil, Forage, Hay and Compost Testing - Prior to running Sustainable Stables full-time, I had a 10 year career with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as an analytical chemist with a focus on soils and soil health. My day-to-day activities included running the same instruments one would use to measure soil nutrient levels and pH. So adding soil, forage, hay and compost testing to our portfolio of services just made sense. We have partnered with Brookside Labs, one of the nation's leaders in this arena, to enable us to provide these services to our clients. I'm very much looking forward to diving deeper into the topic of soil health, forage and compost testing in future blog posts, so stay tuned!

Eco-Friendly Stable Supplies - This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Germany and tour HAHN Plastics manufacturing plant. HAHN makes over 2,000 products, all manufactured using 100% recycled plastic. Many of these products are perfect for your horse property. HAHN's Mud Control Grids, for example, make addressing mud issues around heavy use areas like gates, feeders, waterers, laneways etc incredibly easy. HAHN also makes tongue and groove boards perfect for stall fill, kick walls, etc. Unlike wood, these boards never rot or splinter and horses do not chew them like they do wood. We have started using many of HAHN's products in our designs, and also serve as a distributor for HAHN Plastics North America. Contact us for more info, or visit our products page at https://www.sustainablestables.com/stable-products to learn more.

Equestrian planning and design remains our core service, but we are excited about expanding into these new areas to better serve our clients.
